2024-03-22 IEC released the pre-release version of the standard IEC61347-2-13:2024!

On March 22, 2024, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) published a pre-release version of the standard IEC 61347-2-13:2024 PRV, "Electric light source control devices – Safety – Part 2-13: Special requirements – Electronic control devices for LED light sources".

Introduction to the new version of the standard:

• IEC 61347-2-13:2024 specifies the general requirements and safety requirements for miscellaneous circuits for luminaires using a power supply not exceeding 50Hz or 60Hz, 1000V AC power and/or not exceeding 1500V DC;

• The second edition cancels and replaces the first edition issued in 2001 and the amendment 1 issued in 2017;

• IEC 61347-2-13:2024 specifies the safety requirements for electronic control equipment used with LED light sources using a power supply not exceeding 50Hz or 60Hz, 1000V AC power supply or not exceeding 1500V DC power supply;

• This document applies to electronic control equipment for LED light sources with an output voltage (RMS) of no higher than 1000V;

• This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2014 and the amendment 1 published in 2016.

Major technical changes in the new version of the standard:

a) Consistent with IEC 61347-1 4th Edition;

- Introduce dated references to the fourth edition of IEC 61347-1, as appropriate;

- Deletion of clauses and sub-clauses that are no longer relevant or are now included in IEC 61347-1;

b) update normative citations and, where appropriate, introduce dated citations;

c) DC voltage range extended to 1500V;

d) Scope clarification;

e) delete unused definitions;

f) Revision of information and marking requirements;

g) the new marking requirement "electronic control of LED light sources";

h) new requirements for electronic control devices for LED light sources with constant light output or programmable current (Chapters 3, 6, 16 and 18 supplements);

i) the requirements for determining the output operating voltage have been modified (new clause 17);

j) New requirements for determining the characteristics of rated outputs (Article 18).
